John M. Lehigh ’63

John M. Lehigh ’63 died on June 20, the day before his 83rd birthday. John was born in Boston and attended Belmont Prep and Worcester Classical High School, where he was president of the student body and participated in glee club, cross country, track, and swimming. John received an academic swimming scholarship to Dartmouth, where he majored in art and was in the Glee Club (member of the Dartmouth Aires) and the swim team and a brother in Tabard. He continued his education at Massachusetts Institute of Technology School of Architecture and the Columbia School of HealthCare Architecture. He married Mary Lou Jannette and they raised three daughters in Maryland, Minnesota, Massachusetts, and New York. John worked for a large firm for 23 years and then formed his own firm, practicing for another 20 years. He was chairman of the Lockport, New York, planning board for 10 years and served in several nonprofit and religious groups. John married Mellissa (“Missy”) Clause in Georgia in 2010 and helped her run her adoption agency. They had a blended family of five daughters and 10 grandchildren. He remained musical all his life, singing in boys choirs as a child and church choirs throughout his adult life. John was buried in the Columbarium Garden he designed for St. Elizabeth’s Church in Dahlonega, Georgia.
