John A. Kavanagh ’58

John A. Kavanagh ’58 passed away June 16. His wife, Derreth, says, “It was very peaceful but a surprise. He suffered a stroke and did not recover. He loved Dartmouth and it always had a place in his heart.” John grew up in Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania, majored in English, and played in the band, eventually serving as drum major and student director. He was also active in the Handel Society and was director of Variety Night. During summers at Dartmouth John worked for Wyeth Labs as a dental representative, which led to a career in the pharmaceutical-medical device industry with Wyeth, Squibb, and Bristol-Myers. Later he established a medical recruiting company specializing in research positions, mainly for startups and emerging pharma companies. John retired in North Carolina and is survived by Derreth and two sons.
