John Joseph Murray Jr. ’73

John Joseph Murray Jr. ’73 died on July 18, 2020, at Lahey Hospital and Medical Center (LHMC) in Burlington, Massachusetts. John was a native of Stoneham, Massachusetts, where he attended high school. At the College John majored in economics and was a member of Sigma Theta Epsilon. After Dartmouth he earned an M.D. at Boston University School of Medicine in 1977 and in 1983 completed his general surgical residency at BU Medical Center and Boston City Hospital. John did his colorectal residency at LHMC, where he went on to become the senior staff surgeon and program director for colon and rectal surgical residency. In 2008 John was recruited to Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, New Hampshire, to be the head of a new division of colon and rectal surgery. Away from work he enjoyed golf, gardening, walking, reading, and oil painting. In October of 2018 John fell and sustained a neck injury that made the final 21 months of his life difficult. At the time of his death John and his wife, Robin, were residing in Andover, Massachusetts. He is survived by Robin, a son, a daughter, a stepson, two stepdaughters, three grandchildren, and two sisters.
