John Joseph Boyle Jr. ’52
John Joseph Boyle Jr. ’52 passed away peacefully on April 8. Jack was born in Belmont, Massachusetts, on July 6, 1930, the eldest of six children. He attended St. Sebastian’s School, where he was class salutatorian, ’48 class president, football captain, a baseball player, and a hockey standout. He accepted a Navy ROTC scholarship to attend Dartmouth, where he played hockey, captained the golf team, and served as president of Psi Upsilon. Upon graduation Jack served as a lieutenant aboard the USS Missouri for two years. After an honorable discharge, he entered the material handling equipment business, soon deciding to be his own boss. His smartest decision, he often said, was to marry Dolores “Dodie” Summa, who brought color and vibrancy to his life. Jack built a great life for his family in Wayland, Massachusetts. He was a member of the Weston Golf Club for more than 50 years. In 1995 Jack sold the business and moved into a condominium in the Charlestown Navy Yard, A faithful Catholic, Jack attended Mass weekly and took pride in his brother, Ed ’53, being a Jesuit priest. Jack was predeceased by Dodie and siblings Ed, Patricia, and Suzanne. He is survived by sons John (and wife Mary), Edward ’87 (and wife Cameron), James (and wife Hanna), and David (and wife Oselinda); and eight grandchildren.
