John H. Cogswell ’55

John H. Cogswell ’55 passed away on June 1 in Needham, Massachusetts. He is survived by daughters Julie and Catherine and grandchildren Jacob, Isaac, and Kiernan. A native of Mountain Lakes, New Jersey, Jack came to Dartmouth from Kenmore High School. He majored in engineering and was a member of Alpha Theta, Green Key, Army ROTC, the radio station, and the Athletic Council. Before leaving Hanover, Jack earned an M.S. in civil engineering from Thayer. Jack served eight years in the Army as an intelligence officer before starting a 34-year career with the New England Telephone Co. He rose to the position of secretary and treasurer. During a 40-year period, Jack devoted much of his time to the town of Needham. He served on its planning board, the board of appeals, and board of selectmen. For Dartmouth Jack was a class agent, Alumni Fund volunteer, and a member of the class executive committee. Jack married Patricia Morrissey in 1955, and they shared 59 years before she passed away.
