John Grocott ’52

John Grocott ’52 of Bow, New Hampshire, died May 18 at the Concord (New Hampshire) Regional Visiting Nurse Association Hospice House following a lengthy illness. John graduated from Melrose (Massachusetts) High School, where he was captain of the football and hockey teams. John played hockey as a defenseman at Dartmouth and was team captain in 1951-52. At Dartmouth John majored in economics and was a member of Phi Gamma Delta and Sphinx. After college he joined the Marine Corps and served in Korea from 1952 to 1954. He then joined the All-American hockey team on a European tour. John married Judith Hawkes of Melrose, Massachusetts, in 1956. For the majority of his professional career he worked for the brokerage firm Merrill Lynch. In 1969 he was named assistant manager of the newly opened Honolulu, Hawaii, branch and stayed in Hawaii until returning to New England in 1985, settling in New Hampshire. Judy, children, Steven, Susan, Sally and Jennifer, 12 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren survive him.
