John Falkner Arndt Jr. ’52

John Falkner Arndt Jr. ’52 passed away in Lexington, Kentucky, on December 19, 2020, just two days after his 91st birthday. Jack was born on December 17, 1929, in Pennsylvania and raised in the Philadelphia area. He graduated from the Episcopal Academy there before joining the class of 1952 at Dartmouth, graduating with a degree in sociology and membership in Kappa Sigma and the squash team. Following service as an officer in the U.S. Navy with one year at sea and a second year of shore duty, Jack began work at Lees Carpets, a division of Burlington Industries. He spent 36 years there in a variety of managerial responsibilities, including 15 years as head of customer service. He retired in the early 1990s when the company headquarters moved to North Carolina. He then earned a master’s in pastoral counseling from LaSalle University in Philadelphia, enabling him to have a second career working with the elderly and volunteering at Contact Care Line. He also served on the board of directors of Main Line School Night Association, an adult education program. In 1954 Jack and Stephanie Fuguet married and had children Elizabeth, James, and John; Jack and Stephanie later divorced and she passed away in 2017. In 1982 Jack married Nancy Furlong. She, his children and their families, including three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren, survive him. Nancy’s children, Cynthia, Heather, and Sharon and their families, including three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren, also survive him.
