John Edward Keniley Jr. ’52

John Edward Keniley Jr. ’52, a resident of Cornelius, North Carolina, passed away on August 29, 2016. John was born on November 23, 1930, in Massachusetts and graduated from the Taft School in Watertown, Connecticut, in 1948. At Dartmouth John was a member of Chi Phi and graduated with a degree in economics. His military commitment was with the Massachusetts Air National Guard and his career was mostly in the construction and insurance business in the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic states. What he loved most, however, was sailing and, for a number of years, he operated a charter boat company, Fanfare Charters, in St. Thomas in the U.S. Virgin Islands. In recent years John and his wife, Betsy, retired to North Carolina to be near family. John met Betsy in 1995 in St. Thomas while doing work for the Federal Emergency Management Agency and they married six months later. Betsy survives him, as do his three children from his first marriage, John III, Christopher and Dawn Keniley; several grandchildren; Betsy’s children Greg, Pamela and Mandy and their spouses and children.
