John C. Lord II ’76

John C. Lord II ’76, who served in Vietnam prior to matriculation to Dartmouth and was a member of the Hanover Fire Department, died November 10, 2022, in Pittsboro, North Carolina. Born in New Haven, Connecticut, he grew up in nearby Weston. During summers he attended Camp Agawam in Raymond, Maine, as a camper and later as a guide, specializing in canoeing through many Maine lakes. He graduated from the Hotchkiss School in 1968 and enlisted in the U.S. Navy, training as a medical corpsman for the Marine Corps. After his honorable discharge, he enrolled at Dartmouth, served in the Hanover Fire Department and there met his future wife, Kathleen Helen Campion. They were married in October 1975, starting 47-year adventure together. After his Dartmouth graduation, Jack studied at SUNY New Paltz and then received his B.A. in North Carolina in Health Sciences as a physician assistant. He specialized in emergency medicine and later in peri-operative anesthesia and surgical screening. He also taught in the Duke University physician assistant program for many years as clinical coordinator and later as second-year coordinator. He found teaching especially rewarding, permitting him to interact and share his knowledge and experience with new generations of physician assistants. Jack retired from Duke in 2014 and then indulged many interests, including cycling and maintaining his bike, gardening, reading, and discussing politics with friends and family.
