Jethόn Sharrieff ’73

Jethόn Sharrieff ’73 died unexpectedly on June 25 at St. David’s Hospital in Austin, Texas. Jed came to Dartmouth from Bennett High School in Buffalo, New York. At the College he majored in economics and graduated in 1979. Jed was for a time a codirector of Dartmouth’s A Better Chance (ABC) program, which was created to encourage disadvantaged high school students to apply to colleges and universities. He married Reneé Hodge in 1984. An earlier marriage to Deborah Williams ended in divorce. In the 1990s Jed worked in retail food marketing as a store director for Whole Foods Market Inc. For the past 20 years he was a customer support specialist in installation, training, and computer maintenance for the MicroMain Corp. in Austin. Jed was a gourmet cook who shared his skill by preparing meals for others and by giving cooking instruction. Trained in his youth to play the violin, Jed enjoyed jazz, classical music, soul music, and R&B. He was passionate about the education of his children and his family members. Jed is survived by Reneé and sons Jethόn II and Jamal.
