James Wheland Wall ’59

James Wheland Wall ’59 died on April 1, 2016. He entered Dartmouth from the Baylor School in Chattanooga, Tennessee, and was a member of Delta Tau Delta. He was in the 3-2 program with the Medical School, from which he graduated in 1960. He completed his medical training and received his M.D. at Baylor School of Medicine in Houston. Following internship and residency at Vanderbilt Medical Center in Tennessee, he served for two years as a captain in the Army Pediatric Service. Jim had a 40-year career as a pediatrician with the Knoxville (Tennessee) Pediatrics Group, retiring in 2007. Upon retirement he was named Senior Pediatrician of the Year by the Tennessee Chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics. He loved the outdoors and was an avid fan of the women’s basketball team of the University of Tennessee. He leaves his wife of 23 years, Elizabeth (“Libba”); sons Scott, Jeffrey and Douglas; stepson James; stepdaughter Katherine; 15 grandchildren; and brother Robert. His wife of 33 years, Diana, predeceased him in 1991.
