James Pace ’97

James Pace ’97 passed away on October 13, 2020. He was born May 25, 1975, in New Haven, Connecticut. He was a high school valedictorian and attended Dartmouth for only one year, although his kind nature and sense of humor left a lasting impression on the members of his fourth-floor Zimmerman undergraduate advisor group. Michael Lee ’97 recalled how James helped him set up his first computer. “James loaded up all these audio files on it for my BlitzMail—lots of Star Wars and Princess Bride (he loved that movie) clips. My blitz went ‘inconceivable’ every time I got a new message. He was so kind and generous. I remember he also loved the movie Arsenic and Old Lace, which I watched because of him.” Rebecca St. Colette Sullivan ’97 echoed that sentiment: “He was always there to help with any tech stuff or just the shy smile.” Roommate Kevin Spence ’97 recollected James’ “all purple clothes days” and Alex Ford ’97 remembered “the ‘Pacer,’ as we called him from time to time, was a very kind soul.” James, who worked at Target and was known as an avid gamer and Star Wars fan, is survived by his father, two sisters, and numerous nieces and nephews.
