James Irwin Nienhuis ’76

James Irwin Nienhuis ’76 died April 11, 2023, in Houston. He was born in Houston January 24, 1954, to Dr. Lester and Evelyn Nienhuis. Jim graduated from Edison Senior High in Tulsa, Oklahoma, where he played basketball and was captain his senior year. At Dartmouth earned a degree in geology and played on the freshman basketball team. After graduation his working life centered in the tugboat business. Friends and relatives recall Jim as a kind man who often gave to those in need. He enjoyed fishing and had drawn a prototype for a fishing lure. Having a soft spot for animals, he especially adored his two cats. His Christian faith was of utmost importance, evidenced by his constant research and writing about the new things he learned. He is survived by his mother, sisters Lisa and Gay, and multiple nieces, nephews, and cousins.
