Henry F. Smith ’63

Henry F. Smith ’63 died due to Alzheimer’s on October 23, 2022, in Hanover, where lived since 2010. Hank was from Lowell, Massachusetts, and attended Lowell High School, where he was a member of the tennis team. At Dartmouth Hank majored in philosophy, competed on the tennis team, and was a brother in Sigma Nu. After Dartmouth he attended Merrimack College in North Andover, Massachusetts, and joined the Marine Corps Reserve. In 1965 Hank joined W.W. Norton book publishers and became manager of the college book division, eventually becoming director of marketing. He married Marilyn Howe in 1966 and they were divorced in 1979. In 1990, after 25 years at W.W. Norton, Hank retired and moved to Florida and subsequently became a much-acclaimed bartender at the Feather Sound Country Club in Clearwater before moving to Hanover in 2010. He was an active tennis player his whole life and added long-distance walking in Hanover, often walking to Lebanon, New Hampshire.
