Harold Young McCulloch Jr. ’71

Harold Young McCulloch Jr. ’71 died October 23, 2023. Born in Newport News, Virginia, Hal attended public schools, where he studied Latin and excelled in track and field throughout high school. At Dartmouth he earned an A.B. in classics, summa cum laude. He then attended the University of Michigan, where he received a Ph.D. in classical studies of Ancient Greek and Roman history. Hal later received an M.B.A. at Rider University while working as associate dean of the honors program at Princeton College of Literature, Science and the Arts. From there he became president and senior vice president of DeVry University, medical division, in the Caribbean. After retirement in 2014, Hal moved to Pooler, Georgia. He began studying the Bible with Jehovah’s Witnesses in 2016 and symbolized his faith and dedication by water baptism on April 2, 2017. He cherished the wealth of information he received while attending meetings, assemblies, and conventions. Hal was a gentle man with a mild spirit and showed a genuine love and interest in people. He leaves behind his wife, Veronica; stepdaughters Dana, Lauren, Gloria, and Melanie; siblings Brian, Jeffery, and Gloria; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
