Gordon B. Flint Jr. ’71

Gordon B. Flint Jr. ’71 died July 28, 2023. He was a local boy, growing up in Claremont, New Hampshire, and graduating as valedictorian from nearby Newport High School after taking a year off between his junior and senior years to attend St. Paul’s advanced study program. He felt that was the best preparation for Dartmouth, where he graduated magna cum laude and was a member of the Glee Club, Marching Band and Kappa Kappa Kappa. At age 21 he was the youngest representative to the N.H. General Court during its 1971-72 session. He received a J.D. from the University of Virginia Law School in 1974. He practiced law in Newport with John C. Fairbanks before becoming self-employed in the 1980s. He retired in 2007. Throughout his life, he was athletic, playing football, track, baseball, and basketball. He was involved with his community and sang with the Newport Area Choir and played in many local bands; served on the Newport Opera House board of directors (performing in many musicals) and the local school board; was a judge in the Newport District Court; and was a member of the South Congregational Church and its choir, Lions Club, and Rotary. He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Sandra, in-laws, and extended family.
