Gerald “Jerry” D’Amelia ’86
Gerald “Jerry” D’Amelia ’86 of Clifton Park, New York, husband of 26 years of Mary, passed away April 12 after living with ALS for four years. Jerry faced the challenges associated with this disease with courage, positivity, and his subtle sense of humor. Born in Newport News, Virginia, he was a graduate of Albany Academy, Dartmouth, and Albany Law School, where he earned his J.D. At Dartmouth Jerry will be remembered for his kindness and cheery outlook on life as he worked on class council and served as class vice president. He began his career practicing law as an assistant district attorney with the Office of the District Attorney of Orange County, New York. He was most recently an attorney with Progressive Insurance in Albany for eight years. He volunteered as a firefighter with the Clifton Park Fire Department for nearly 10 years, serving as president during his tenure. He is survived by Mary; parents Gerald and Marilyn; children Andrew and Jessica; siblings Linda, Michael, Jo-Ellen, Dawn, Suzanne, Daniel; aunt Eleanor; and several cousins, nieces and nephews. A service of remembrance of Jerry was celebrated April 16 at St. George’s Episcopal Church.
