Gerald Dawley Scott ’59
Gerald Dawley Scott ’59 died on June 11. He entered Dartmouth from Nelson W. Aldrich High School in Warwick, Rhode Island, and majored in history. He was active in The Dartmouth and the Young Republicans Club during each of his years at the College. Following a brief stint in the Army Reserves, Jerry began a career in information technology as a computer programmer for the IRS and joined IBM Federal Systems in 1963. He earned, by attending night classes, a master’s in management information technology from American University in 1966. He transferred to Philadelphia, where he was a founder of an IT consulting firm and chief information officer of two large retail companies. He then worked for almost 10 years as a consultant. He was chairman of the regional chapter of the Society of Information Management and was for a number of years active in local charitable and political activities. Jerry retired in 2002, moving to Delaware in warmer months and Florida in the winter. Following retirement he traveled actively throughout the world, first with Jane, his wife of almost 45 years until her death in 2007, and beginning in about 2015 with his fiancée, Charlotte. He was an avid bridge player, and shortly before his death achieved gold life master status in the American Contract Bridge League. He leaves his two daughters, Deborah and Susan.
