George R. Hammel ’58
George R. Hammel ’58 passed away on October 18, 2021. He grew up in Scarsdale, New York, and came to Hanover after having served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. At Dartmouth George majored in sociology and was a member of Zeta Psi. He then had a 30-plus-year career with McGraw-Hill, where he was head of advertising sales for Sportsmedicine magazine. Entertaining clients in N.Y.C., George became a fixture at Palm Too restaurant on Second Avenue, which painted his portrait on the wall. He was a sports fanatic and loved to coach his kids’ and grandkids’ in sports. In addition to his grandchildren, George is survived by a daughter and two sons, including Jeff ’91.
