George A. Morrison ’57

George A. Morrison ’57 died of prostate cancer on April 21, 2017, in Phoenix, Arizona. George graduated from Alton Senior High School in Alton, Illinois. At Dartmouth he was a history major, a brother in Zeta Psi and participated in the Dartmouth Outing Club all four years. In 1960 George earned his J.D. from Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri. He served three years in the Judge Advocate General’s Corps in Fort Lee, Virginia, then earned a master of laws from New York University and briefly practiced law in Kansas City, Missouri, before joining the natural resources division of Burlington Northern in St. Paul, Minnesota. Later he moved with his family to the company headquarters in Seattle, where he lived for 17 years. George participated in civic associations in St. Paul and Seattle. In 1999 he was successfully treated for pancreatic cancer and fulfilled plans to move to Prescott, Arizona, where he spent many hours on the golf course and in community service. In 2013 he moved to Sagewood Retirement Community in Phoenix, where he served as chairman of the finance committee. An avid hiker and photographer, George enjoyed exploring areas of the United States with his family, then touring New Zealand, Australia, Tasmania, Russia, England, Scotland, France, Germany, Switzerland, Spain, Portugal, Turkey and, on a 50th wedding anniversary trip with his family, Costa Rica. George is survived by Phyllis, his wife of 59 years, son David, daughter Lynda and four grandchildren.
