George Horning Lowden ’43
George Horning Lowden ’43 passed away at his home in Fort Myers, Florida, on October 7, 2019. He was born May 27, 1921, in Elizabeth, New Jersey, and attended the Pingry School and the Lawrenceville School before coming to Dartmouth. He served in WW II as a naval aviator on PBY Flying Boats before being assigned to Naval Air Transport Service, where he flew DC-3s and DC-4s. He spent a year with Eastern Air Lines out of Newark, New Jersey, following WW II, and then went to work mainly in the petroleum industry for 25 years, with Standard Oil, Esso Research, Enjay Chemical Co., and Lubrizol Corp. He was a director of the Barton Mines Corp., Mooney Chemical, and Wallover Oil Co. He married Louise Littlefield of Philadelphia in 1950 and lived in Chatham, New Jersey; Bloomfield Village, Michigan; and Hudson and Shaker Heights, Ohio. He retired to Sanibel Island, Florida, in the mid 1980s and subsequently moved to Fort Myers. He is survived by children George Jr., Josephine, and David and their spouses; and grandchildren Philip, George III, Margaret, Philip, George, Emery, Skyler, and David Jr.
