George Henry Drawbaugh ’59
George Henry Drawbaugh ’59 passed away on May 8. He entered Dartmouth from Rumson (New Jersey) High School, where he was a National Honor Society and student council member, lettering in tennis, track and weight lifting. At Dartmouth George was a brother of Phi Delta Theta, majored in sociology, and rowed crew and was a member of the rowing club for four years. Active in DOC and the Motor Sports Club, he also served on the Winter Carnival committee and was a member of the carnival council his senior year. After college George stayed close to Dartmouth by being a class agent, a class career advisor to students, and president of the Dartmouth Club in New Jersey. George started his business career with New Jersey Bell Telephone. In 1962 he went into the insurance business at the former Connecticut Mutual Life, now Mass Mutual. Subsequently he formed George H. Drawbaugh and Associates, an insurance brokerage firm. When he died he was active as a member and former commodore of the Lake Hopatcong Yacht Club and the North Jersey Yacht Racing Association. He was active as a member of the Root Beer & Checker Club, the North Shrewsbury Ice Boat and Yacht Club and the Little Silver, New Jersey, fire police. He was a deacon of the Tower Hill-First Presbyterian Church in Red Bank, New Jersey. George is survived by his wife of 51 years, Gail; children Lisa, George (“Chuck”) and David; and eight grandchildren.
