George Clifford Pollard ’52
George Clifford Pollard ’52 passed away at Fellowship Village in Basking Ridge, New Jersey, on May 9. George was born and raised in Vineland, New Jersey. During the next 75 years he lived in various New Jersey neighborhoods—including Plainfield, Berkeley Heights, and Millington—before moving to Fellowship Village in Basking Ridge in 2024. After graduating high school from the Haverford School in Pennsylvania, he proudly served 15 months in the U.S. Army, where he was stationed in the Panama Canal Zone, before college. George attended Dartmouth before transferring to the University of Pennsylvania, where he earned a B.A. in economics. In 1959 earned his M.B.A. from New York University. A 34-year career banker in New York City, he first worked with Hanover Bank, then with Continental Illinois Bank, and finally as president of Cleveland’s Society Bank International before retiring in 1987. George was an active member of the Union Village United Methodist Church in Berkeley Heights. George was predeceased by his first wife, Julia, in 1993; his second wife, Lois, in 2024; son David in 2007; and siblings Dorothe (2017) and Donald (2018). George is survived by children Andrew and Julia; stepchildren Karen, William, and Margaret; seven grandchildren; nine stepgrandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
