Geoffrey E. Bolton ’76

Geoffrey E. Bolton ’76 passed away on June 22, 2014, after battling advanced metastatic renal cell cancer for several years. He leaves his wife, Mi Ok, and sons John and Ted. After Dartmouth Jeff received an M.B.A. from UCLA, then worked for the consulting firm BCG, after which he took a job with Nike that put him in charge of worldwide manufacturing. During that time he spent a lot of time in Korea, China and Vietnam. In Korea preparing for the 1988 Olympics, he met and married Mi Ok. They eventually returned to his native Oregon to Nike headquarters. After corporate life, Jeff and Mi Ok retired in Kailua, Hawaii. The town proved to be the perfect place in which to retire, but as Jeff’s illness progressed, trips to the beach became less frequent and the decision was made to relocate to North Carolina to be closer to John and Teddy, who had both attended college there. Much of Jeff‘s Dartmouth life was focused around crew, where he served as bowman of the 1972 heavyweight freshman crew that won the Eastern Sprints and co-captain of the varsity rowing team at Dartmouth; he also competed in the 1976 Olympic trials in rowing. To his friends he was much more than crew. They remember his spirit, intellectual curiosity and loyalty. Despite battling his disease he maintained his sense of humor and honesty, sharing thoughts and memories with friends and family. He will be missed by all who knew him.
