Gene Brian Marshall ’64
Gene Brian Marshall ’64 died on August 31, 2013, in Lisbon, New Hampshire, where he was born and where he returned in retirement. He graduated from Lisbon High School, where he worked on the newspaper and yearbook and he was a member of the glee club and dramatics club. At Dartmouth he majored in government and was a member of the Glee Club. After graduating Gene embarked on a career in the U.S. Foreign Service. He served in postings in Syria (just prior to the Six Days War), Iran, Vietnam (before and after the ceasefire), Afghanistan, Greece, China (U.S. consul general) and Canada (U.S. consul), as well as in a prolonged assignment in Washington, D.C., working on narcotics control in Asia and Africa. He returned to his hometown after retirement in 1993 and designed and built the home he lived in for the past 20 years. He worked on the genealogy of his parents’ families. He served two terms in the New Hampshire House of Representatives. Gene was known for his encyclopedic knowledge of local and global history and cultures. He had a penchant for foreign languages. Gene was a member of the board of the Lisbon Historical Society. Gene was a chef, an avid music lover and a self-taught piano player.
