Gary M. Silver ’63

Gary M. Silver ’63, M.D., died October 22, 2024. Gary was from Cleveland Heights, Ohio, and attended Cleveland Heights High School, where he participated in wrestling. At Dartmouth he continued wrestling and was a brother of Pi Lambda Phi. He furthered his education at Northwestern University Medical School, earning his M.D. in 1966. He completed his internship and residency in cardio and thoracic surgery at the prestigious Cleveland Clinic. In 1973 Gary began private practice in San Jose, California, joining the medical staff at O’Connor Hospital, where he founded the heart surgery program in 1974. He obtained his M.B.A. in 1988 from San Jose University. Gary was committed to his community and joined the Rotary Club of San Jose, where he earned recognition as a San Jose endowment fellow and a Paul Harris fellow and served as president, 1993-94. Gary contributed the adult “Gift of Life Program,” which provided lifesaving cardiac surgeries for needy adults from developing countries, earning the class of 1963 Soaring Pine Award at his 35th reunion in 1998. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Barbara; two sons; and three grandchildren.
