Frederick Theodore Heath ’52
Frederick Theodore Heath ’52, retired Navy commander, passed away on June 14 in Chesapeake, Virginia. Fred was born on April 5, 1931, in Hawthorne, New York. The family later moved to Concord New Hampshire, where Fred graduated from Concord High School. He graduated from Dartmouth in 1952 with a major in government and began his naval career as an officer. He began sea duty with the USS McCord followed by the USS Tidewater. Fred later left surface sea duty and attended Combat Information Center and submarine schools. His submarine assignments were on USS Medregal and USS Bashaw and as commanding officer on USS Chivo. Fred also held staff positions in the commander’s office of the Submarine Force for the U.S. Pacific Fleet, Naval Ordinance Lab, and Navy Safe Center Sub Safety Program, retiring from the Navy in 1976. Fred then earned an M.B.A. from George Washington University and started his civilian career as a systems analyst, ending his civilian career at Comptek Research in 1994. Fred never slowed down, volunteering at St. Nicholas Catholic Church for many years as well as delivering for Meals on Wheels, helping wherever he could. Fred was predeceased by his first wife, Dolores. He is survived by his second wife, Lois; children Margaret, Nancy, and Frederick; stepchildren Bob, Christine, and Liz; and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren. Fred’s father, Andrew Heath, was Dartmouth class of 1922.
