Franklin Taylor Osgood Jr. ’52

Franklin Taylor Osgood Jr. ’52 passed away in Devon, Pennsylvania, on May 15. Frank was born on December 6, 1930, and graduated from the Penn Charter School in Philadelphia. He then attended Dartmouth on a naval scholarship, graduating in 1952 and going on to serve his country as a Navy lieutenant on the destroyer USS Lind. At Dartmouth Frank majored in history and was a member of Delta Upsilon. In 1955 he joined the marketing group at Smith, Kline, and French. Frank and three colleagues left that firm to form what later became Lea Inc., a pharmaceutical marketing research firm. Following several business mergers Frank became CEO of IMS Inc., retiring in 1985. In retirement Frank and his wife, Priscilla, split the year between their Pennsylvania and Montana homes. In Pennsylvania Frank was a member of the Main Line Unitarian Church. He was an excellent tennis and golf player, enjoying the competition and companionship of the games. In Montana Frank was an active outdoorsman, enjoying fly fishing, hiking, and skiing. Frank is survived by his wife of 42 years, Priscilla; son Taylor and his wife, Kim; daughter Jodie and her husband, James; daughter Cynthia and her husband, Takahiro; son Carl and his wife, Laurie; nine grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. He as predeceased by daughter, Janet, and first wife, Mary, from whom he was divorced. Frank’s late father was a member of the Dartmouth class of 1925.
