Frank Joseph Killilea Jr. ’60

Frank Joseph Killilea Jr. ’51 died on November 20, 2019. Frank was born in Cambridge, Massachusetts, on October 5, 1938, to Col. Frank and Isabel Killilea. He attended Phillips Andover Academy. At Dartmouth he was a member of Phi Kappa Psi and the Newman Club, rowed two years on the heavyweight crew, competed one year on the football team, and went on to earn an engineering degree from Thayer School in 1963. He married Katherine in 1969 and they celebrated their 50th anniversary last summer. Frank and Katherine lived in Somerville, Massachusetts, before moving to nearby Wilmington, where they raised their three children, Susan, Steven, and Thomas. As a professional engineer Frank specialized in environmental engineering and worked 30 years with Metcalf & Eddy. He finished his career with the City of Beverly, Massachusetts, serving as the director of engineering and on the Salem-Beverly water supply board for more than 11 years. In his spare time he enjoyed and took great pride in his vegetable garden. With an ability to fix anything, he always had a home project underway. He enjoyed coaching his kids in sports, especially baseball, softball, and soccer. Frank was a man of faith. For many years a member of St. Thomas of Villanova, he served as a lector. He is survived by Katherine, three children, five grandchildren, and three brothers and their families.
