Frank J. Mooney III ’57

Frank J. Mooney III ’57 died on December 14, 2018, in Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston. Frank graduated from Waltham (Massachusetts) Senior High School. At Dartmouth he was a history major who participated in the Handel Society all four years, including the last two on the board. Frank was a member of the Human Rights Society and its recording secretary. He was chairman of the Saint Thomas Church student vestry. A member of the Army ROTC all four years, he went on to serve his country for two years in the U.S. Army Signal Corps. He married Helen, a Waltham native, in 1962. Frank went to work in his family business, Lundey Sales in Waltham, which specialized in fasteners and tools for metal building fabrication as well as distributing tools for the commercial building trade. He served as president of the company from 1975 until its sale in 1995. Lots of time was spent at the family beach home in Warwick, Rhode Island, playing tennis and yard games and salt- and freshwater fishing, digging clams and quahogs from his beloved East Greenwich Bay. Several camping trips traversed New England and much of the East Coast. After retiring, Frank and Helen took a trip across country in their recreational vehicle and later maintained a seasonal camp at Country Aire Campground in Charlemont, Massachusetts, to be close to their grandchildren. He is survived by Helen, his wife of 56 years, son Frank IV, daughter Kristin, and two grandsons.
