Frank B. Hoefle ’57

Frank B. Hoefle ’57, a longtime resident of Haworth, New Jersey, passed away peacefully in his home on April 19, 2020. Frank graduated from Fort Hamilton High School in Brooklyn, New York. At Dartmouth he was premed, a zoology major, a member and social chair of Phi Gamma Delta, and on the Dormitory Committee. He received his diploma from Dartmouth Medical School in 1959 and his M.D. from Harvard Medical School in 1961. “Doc” served on the USS Repose during the Vietnam War. He then practiced at Columbia Presbyterian Hospital in New York City. In addition to the pride he took in helping his patients, he was team ophthalmologist for the New York Mets throughout the 1970s and 1980s and always counted the days until spring training began. He was predeceased by his wife, Patricia, and is survived by son Frank, daughter-in-law Lauren, granddaughters Madeline and Samantha, and cat Cookie.
