F. Richard Schneider ’51

F. Richard Schneider ’51, M.D., a longtime orthopedic surgeon in the San Francisco Bay area, died on May 1, 2015, in Healdsburg, California. Dick was a member of the 24-person group selected from the class of ’51 to attend Dartmouth’s two-year medical school, spending his senior year and one additional year in the program. He went on to complete his M.D. in orthopedic surgery at Harvard. As an undergraduate he was a member of Kappa Sigma and Alpha Kappa Kappa medical fraternity and was elected to Phi Beta Kappa. Dick completed his orthopedic internship and residency at Stanford University and then served two years in the U.S. Navy before beginning his medical practice in Daly City, California. He was chairman of the department of orthopedic surgery at Mary’s Help Hospital and Seton Medical Center and an associate professor at the University of California, San Francisco. He retired and moved to Healdsburg in 1995. He is survived by his wife, Barbara, three children, six grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
