Evan M. Kjellenberg ’57
Evan M. Kjellenberg ’57 of Sister Bay, Wisconsin, passed away peacefully in his sleep on January 18, 2018. Born in Peoria, Illinois, “Shelly” graduated from Syracuse High School in Cincinnati. He earned a full scholarship to Dartmouth, graduating with his class after attending Tuck School during his senior year. He was an active brother of Delta Upsilon, where he is well remembered as its social chairman. Shelly worked on The Dartmouth for four years and served as its advertising manager. He was a member of the pre-law club. He went on to the University of Chicago Law School, where he earned his J.D. Shelly loved the law, practicing for more than 30 years in Chicago. In addition to his challenging regular practice, he was active in improving business law. He served as chairman of the corporate law committee of the Chicago Bar Association and chairman of the corporation and securities law council of the Illinois State Bar Association. In 1983 he chaired the committee of commercial code that rewrote the 1936 commercial code. In 1996 he moved to rural Door County, Wisconsin, and opened a law practice. Shelly enjoyed barbershop singing. He was a member of the Lion’s Club for 20 years. A special interest was building his vacation home. Shelly met Marilyn (“Missy”), the love of his life, at Green Mountain College. Delta Upsilon brothers recall her getting them dates and attending house events on party weekends. They married right after graduation. Missy survives him, along with daughter Suzanne and son Todd.
