Eugene R. Kersey ’63

Eugene R. Kersey ’63 died on July 26, 2024, in Beaverton, Oregon. He was born in Edina, Minnesota, and attended Edina-Morningside High School, where he was class treasurer and president of the glee club. At Dartmouth Gene majored in public administration, was a brother of Alpha Theta, and active in Casque & Gauntlet and the William Jewett Tucker Foundation. He continued his singing and was president of the Glee Club and leader of the Injunaires. Gene was active as an admission volunteer, class agent, and president of his local club. He spent a year in Mussoorie, India, teaching at the Woodstock School for missionary families. He returned to Minnesota and obtained an M.A. (1966) and Ph.D. (1972) in public administration from the University of Minnesota. In 1979 Gene founded Kersey & Associates, a fundraising consultancy that provided campaign direction and specialized counsel to nonprofits throughout the country. In 1983 he moved with his first wife, Lolly, to Columbia, South Carolina, where he managed the capital campaign for the University of South Carolina. He later moved to Oregon, continuing his consulting work. His second wife, Joanne, predeceased him in 2021. Gene is survived by sons Chris and Andrew ’94.
