Edna Marie Darden ’76

Edna Marie Darden ’76 passed away on March 9 in Decatur, Georgia. Edna was born on December 14, 1953, in San Francisco. She attended elementary and high school in Richmond, California, and graduated from John F. Kennedy High School, where she served as student body president and captain of the debate team. At Dartmouth, Edna majored in sociology and minored in French. Upon graduation Edna first worked for the IRS as an actuary. She then moved to the Atlanta area, where she managed a bookstore and participated in local politics, including writing speeches for former Atlanta mayor Maynard Jackson. Edna remained involved in political campaigning throughout her life. Edna also enjoyed a long career in business-to-business sales, managing sales departments, training large sales teams, and working with an extensive clientele. Although Edna never married or had children, she was instrumental in raising two boys, Jessie and Henry Long, and interacted with and influenced young children throughout her life. Edna is survived by her mother, Marvie; sisters Newsome, Debora, and Anita; brothers Christopher and Lawrence; and numerous nieces and nephews.
