Donald John Landzettel ’60

Donald John Landzettel ’60 of Mahwah, New Jersey, passed away on March 29 at Valley Hospital, Ridgewood, New Jersey, of coronavirus. He and his wife, Gail, (née Newman) treasured their relationship for more than 59 years. Born on March 4, 1938, he grew up in Fair Lawn, New Jersey, and graduated from Fair Lawn High School. At Dartmouth he was a member and president of the Marching Band, a connection he continued after graduation by performing at Homecoming for 40 years. He was also rush chair for two years at Sigma Phi Epsilon. Don completed his military obligation with the Army and was honorably discharged as a captain in 1969. Don then joined the family company, Landzettel & Sons/Lazon Paints in Fair Lawn, as vice president and retail manager. He lived in nearby Allendale from 1963 to 2010 and continued to chair Fair Lawn’s annual Old Timers Dinner. He was a leader of Boy Scout Troop 252 for 20 years, sang in the choir and played saxophone in Archer United Methodist Church, and served as president of the foundation board of the New Bridge Medical Center, which honored him with its Lifetime Achievement Award and the dedication in his name of its interreligious chapel. He is survived by Gail and the families of daughters Susan and Lori, including four grandchildren. A service celebrating his life will be held when public gatherings are permitted.
