Derek Vincent Dorey ’52

Derek Vincent Dorey ’52 of McKinney, Texas, passed away on April 2. He was born on June 5, 1930, in Trenton, New Jersey, and graduated from Choate Preparatory School in Wallingford, Connecticut. “Deke” graduated from Dartmouth in 1952 and earned an M.B.A. from Southern Methodist University in Dallas in 1975. At Dartmouth Deke was a member of Delta Upsilon, sang with the Glee Club, ran cross country, and worked for the college radio station as an on-air host. He married Miriam Heck on July 18, 1953, in Camp Rucker, Alabama, while serving in the U.S. Army counterintelligence service stateside and in Japan. Following the service, Deke joined the General Electric Corp., went through its management program, and retired in 1986 after 31 years of service as a personnel manager. Assignments took Deke and his family to a variety of states, including Texas and ending in Sacramento, California, as a government relations manager. He and Miriam then retired to Texas to be near family. Deke is survived by children David and wife Karin, Derek and wife Barbara, Douglas and husband Robert, and Debbie and husband Bret; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Deke was preceded in death by Miriam, who passed away after 63 years of marriage.
