David V. Regan ’57

David V. Regan ’57 of Marlborough, Massachusetts, passed away on July 29 after a heroic battle with leukemia. He died peacefully with his wife, Robin, and daughter Jila holding his hands. David graduated from Lawrence (Massachusetts) High School. An English major, he was a member of the Newman Club, Germania, the Boxing Club (which he served as president), and the platoon leaders class of the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve. He enlisted as a Marine, serving from 1957 to 1960, mostly in Okinawa, Japan. He would tell stories of his days on the island and how much he adored the people and the beautiful land. He was an English teacher for several years before changing careers and attending the Massachusetts School of Optometry. He opened his own practice in Wayland, Massachusetts, and his work there for more than 45 years gave him great joy. He made it a point to make house calls if some of his patients were not able to make it to his office, and he volunteered at various nursing homes for years to make sure patients there had new prescriptions and glasses. David loved to travel and enjoyed trips to Canada and Ireland. He had a deep respect for the United States and appreciated the beauty of the natural parks. He was a Big Brother to several young children. He is survived by Robin, daughters Jila and Trisha, and grandsons. He also leaves patients, which he considered to be family.
