David Morris Frankel ’79

David Morris Frankel ’79 died on February 26 after a long battle with primary progressive aphasia. Dave lived in Newtown Square and Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania. Born on March 12, 1957, Dave grew up in Wanamassa, New Jersey. At Dartmouth he majored in government and served as dorm chair for Russell Sage and as chief announcer for WDCR. Dave was an accomplished Philadelphia television journalist, working as an investigative reporter and weatherman on Channel 6 and then evening news co-anchor on Channel 3. Dave next embarked on a legal career, representing children with special needs. He was deeply involved in his community and MCed his town’s Memorial Day parade. Dave’s wife, Marjie, writes: “How sad it has been to see this dynamic, funny, bright, and open-hearted human slowly fade away. But Dave is responsible for making and shaping three beautiful, funny, smart humans and six grandchildren who adore him.” Mark Mills ’79 adds: “Dave was a shy person until he held the microphone and then another persona took over. It was a wonder to behold! I cherished his support and camaraderie during college and have carried his spirit with me ever since. His friendship was a comfort and a privilege.” Dave is survived by Marjie; children Bailey, Scott, and Charlie and their spouses; and six grandchildren. Savor Dave’s favorite phrase: “Keep your eyes on the sky.”
