David Jon Mandelbaum ’54

David Jon Mandelbaum ’54 passed away February 5 in Los Angeles after a brief battle with lymphoma. Born in New York City on March 26, 1933, “Mandy” attended the Horace Mann School in Riverdale, New York. At Dartmouth he was a brother of Pi Lamda Phi and a member of the International Relations Club, Spanish Club, and Air Force ROTC. He went on to the Tuck School of Business, following which he served with the Air Force in Europe. Trained as a certified public accountant and financial planner, he excelled in that work in his early career and then went on to the Carlisle Collection in New York City as chief financial officer and then as chief operating officer to his retirement. Mandy had a wide range of interests. He read The New York Times cover to cover on a daily basis. He was devoted to charitable work throughout his life, particularly at the University Settlement of New York, where he was a work camper and camp counselor as a teenager and later served as a multiyear trustee and board chairman. He was a long-term board member and officer of the Winant Volunteers, which he began as a teenager. He served Dartmouth and the class of 1954 in various capacities, including as class president. Mandy had a wide circle of friends. He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Rosemary; sons Jamie and Tim; son-in-law Steve; daughter-in-law Elisa; and grandchildren Louis, Lily, Samantha, and Elizabeth.
