David G. Kamper ’57

David G. Kamper ’57, M.D.,of Minocqua, Wisconsin, passed away on September 8, 2021. David came to Dartmouth from Washington High School in Milwaukee. He majored in medical science and participated in the Dartmouth Outing Club all four years and the Aegis as associate managing editor. In 1958 he received his diploma from Dartmouth Medical School, where he was a member of Alpha Kappa Kappa. In 1960 he earned his M.D. from Harvard Medical School. After an internship at Bellevue Hospital in New York City, in 1961 he entered the U.S. Navy as a physician stationed at the Marine base on Parris Island, South Carolina. Beginning in 1963 he completed a series of residencies in internal medicine at Emory Medical School, in cardiology at Cincinnati Memorial Hospital and Cincinnati Children’s Hospital. In 1968 David began a long private practice in Milwaukee. He treated patients at Columbia Hospital and St. Luke’s Hospital, shuttling his medical bag in a progression of well-worn cars making myriad house calls. He was assistant clinical professor of medicine at the Medical College of Wisconsin. The family lived for a number of years at Oconomowoc Lake before moving north to a peninsula on Minocqua Lake. His love of the Green Bay Packers was surpassed only by his love of family. David is survived by his wife, Elaine, son Derek ’89, Th’89, daughters Gretchen and Kristin, stepchildren Leslie and Craig, 11 grandchildren, and two great grandchildren.
