Daniel P. Harrington ’57

Daniel P. Harrington ’57 of New City, New York, passed away at home on January 11 after a struggle with Parkinson’s disease. Dan graduated from Flushing High School in New York City. At Dartmouth he majored in history and was a member of Phi Gamma Delta, the Pre-law Club, and the track team. After graduation he spent a year at Columbia Law School before transferring to Columbia Business School to earn his M.B.A. in 1960. Dan’s career was in advertising. He spent many years as an account executive on Madison Avenue, where he was able to apply his creative skills in a fast-paced environment. Throughout his life Dan had a love of music, reading (which spanned books on history, politics, and finance), and travel (the States, Caribbean, and Europe). He played the piano and spent many hours recording and listening to his extensive classical music collection. Summers often found Dan at his cottage on Wellesley Island in the Saint Lawrence River at the New York-Canada border. Fishing and boating on the river while taking in the views were two of Dan’s passions, as were his travels throughout Canada’s provinces. Dan is survived by his wife, Dorothy, daughter Joy, son David, and three grandchildren.
