Daniel Joseph Hurley ’43
Daniel Joseph Hurley ’43 died November 8, 2016, in Rochester, New York. Joe grew up in Elmira, New York, and graduated from the Elmira Free Academy, where he was a member of the dramatics club. At Dartmouth he was a member of Tabard and Sigma Chi and attended Tuck School. Joe had a long career in electronics. He worked as a buyer of electronics for the Crosley division of Avco in Cincinnati and Sylvania in Williamsport, Pennsylvania, and Boston before starting his own business, Hurley Sales, in 1967 in Pittsford, New York—a Rochester suburb. A former president of the Rochester District Golf Association at the Locust Hill Country Club in Pittsford, Joe was instrumental in bringing the Ladies Professional Golf Association (LPGA) to Rochester in 1977. He continued his support through the 38 years the LPGA was in Rochester. He was also a volunteer with local charities such as the Red Cross, Habitat for Humanity, Little League and many Catholic family charities. Ever loyal to Dartmouth, he was an Alumni Fund volunteer and a fraternity-sorority agent. Throughout his life Joe enjoyed golf, bridge, bowling, skiing and swimming. In 1945 he married Irene Doran, who died in 1983. He is survived by children Patricia, Dan, Steve, Susan, Janet, Anne, Bill and Mike; 15 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
