Daniel B. Goggin ’57
Daniel B. Goggin ’57 of New Seabury, Massachusetts, died peacefully in his sleep April 12. Dan graduated from Malden (Massachusetts) Catholic High School, where he excelled academically and was a star athlete in football, hockey, and baseball. At Dartmouth Dan majored in economics and was a brother of Phi Gamma Delta. He was on the hockey team all four years, setting scoring records. Dan completed the U.S. Marine Corps officer training course, earned his wings, and flew Crusader fighter jets. After his service he attended Tuck School, where he was elected class president and graduated in 1962. After earning his certified public accountant designation, Dan worked at Ernst & Whinney before joining Boston Mutual Life Insurance Co. in Canton, Massachusetts. Dan was Boston Mutual’s chief financial officer and on the board of directors. He retired in 2003, having worked at Boston Mutual for 35 years. Dan was passionate about sharing his gifts with his community. He led the Chelmsford (Massachusetts) Youth Hockey Association and coached high school hockey. In Cape Cod, Massachusetts, he was a founding partner of the Boys and Girls Club, served on the New Seabury board of directors and the Mashpee finance committee, and was a member of the New Seabury Country Club, where he was golf chairman. He was a lifelong loyal Dartmouth alumnus, president of the Merrimack Valley Dartmouth Club, an alumni interviewer of prospective students, and chairman of his class scholarship committee. Left to cherish his memory are Connie, his loving wife of 58 years, three sons, and 11 grandchildren.
