Dana Evarts Low ’54

Dana Evarts Low ’54 of Hanover and Fairlee, Vermont, died August 27. He attended Summit, New Jersey, schools, graduated summa cum laude from Dartmouth, and earned his Thayer degree in 1955. He was a member of Psi Phi Kappa, the Glee Club, track team, Navy ROTC, and American Society of Civil Engineers. He spent 1955 to 1958 in the Navy as chief engineer on the destroyer, USS Hawkins. Dana joined TAMS Consultants Inc. in N.Y.C. in 1960 and relished traveling throughout developing countries. He became a principal in 1973 and president in 1992, retiring in 1996. From 1980 to 2005 he was involved in the nonprofit International Road Federation, serving as chairman of its world executive board, 2003-05. Dana’s volunteer activities were extensive; he was active in the First Congregational Church of Greenwich, Connecticut, and, after moving to New Hampshire in 2012 he volunteered weekly at the Upper Valley Haven and became involved in the Lyme (New Hampshire) Congregational Church before his health declined. Dana was a great lover of the outdoors, excelling at track and field, tennis, golf, and many other sports. He was a member of the Innis Arden Golf Club for 30 years and an avid hiker, completing the Appalachian Trail during three years in his late 60s. Dana is survived by his wife, Anne, and children Richard ’84, Christopher, and Virginia.
