Craig Barclay Harlan ’59

Craig Barclay Harlan ’59 died on August 17, 2018. He entered Dartmouth from William Penn Charter School in Philadelphia, majored in history, and was a member of Phi Delta Theta and Dragon. After graduation and a brief stint in the Army Reserve, Craig began his business career in metallurgy as a trainee with Beryllium Corp. in Reading, Pennsylvania. Fifteen years later he joined a startup company in the metal business in Providence, Rhode Island, of which he later became president. That company was acquired in 1982 by Brush Wellman, a Cleveland-based company in the metal alloys business. In 1987 Craig and his family moved to Cleveland and he retired as senior vice president of international Materion Corp. Following retirement he and Linda, his wife of 57 years, settled in Florida. Craig was a member of the Glee Club in his early years at Dartmouth and later sang in the choirs of several churches. He was active in alumni affairs, particularly in enrollment, and served as president of several Dartmouth clubs. He leaves Linda, children Jennifer and Geoffrey, and five grandchildren. He was predeceased by son Douglas and brother Roger.
