Clinton Ronald Gaylord ’54
Clinton Ronald Gaylord ’54 passed away May 14 in Tucson, Arizona. Clint came from Peoria, Illinois, where he graduated from Manual Training High School. Clint played football in high school and graduated with honors in science and math. Clint received a scholarship offer from Dartmouth and on campus he played for four years of football, was a Beta Theta Pi, and graduated with a major in business and engineering. His degree led to a four-month career start at Inland Steel Co. in East Chicago, Indiana. He left Inland to enroll in the Navy officer candidate school rather than be drafted into the Army. During his three-year Navy career he was trained in explosive ordinance disposal, becoming a qualified diver and explosive expert. For the last one and a half years of his Navy career he was a torpedo disposal instructor. Upon leaving the Navy in 1958, Clint began his career with IBM, starting in Endicott, New York. He moved a number of times with IBM, finally arriving in Boulder, Colorado, in 1965. In 1978 he and Donna were married and combined their two families. In 1979 they moved to Tucson, where he helped establish a new IBM plant. Clint continued working for IBM until 1991, when he retired. Clint is survived by Donna; children Beth, Judy, Bill, and Mike and their spouses; stepchildren Kirsten and Andrea and their spouses; and 10 grandchildren.
