Class Note 1968
Issue
March - April 2026
Class Note 1968. The Dartmouth Class Officers Association Executive Board (COAEB) recently bestowed upon 1968 a 2025 Class Recognition Award, citing our extensive generosity to the College, especially via our arts legacy committee (ALC), as well as activism regarding political issues confronting Dartmouth and higher education in general.
Class president Ced Kam accepted at the Zoom ceremony. Ced also responded to my general appeal for classmates’ thoughts and plans in the new year with, “I saw the inauguration of fellow Punahou graduate Barack Obama … as fulfilment of the American experiment. I remain an optimist. We are reminded by Martin Luther King Jr. that the ‘the arc of the moral universe is long, but it bends toward justice.’ ”
David Peck’s response to that solicitation related travel plans. Our“peckipatetic” co-memorialist and ALC head, who’s just back from a Florida kayaking trip, will head to the Yucatan in February. David and co-memorialist Dave Gang are documenting the sad news of our most recent passings: Richard Livingston and Bruce Biaggi.
Dan Butterworth wrote of puppetry projects that will continue into 2026, including a shadow version of Peter and the Wolf to be coproduced and staged by a student group for their high school.
Your own new year plans might include participating in our 60-member email group of classmates who discuss Dartmouth-related issues. Ed Heald recently initiated an exchange about early admissions, and Mark Waterhouse, Eric Hatch, and Peter Hofman chimed in. There’s a smaller class cohort for political input, and James Morrison and Clifford Groen contributed. Write to me to enroll.
Mini-reunion news: The 1968 Cornell game alumni roster included Mr. Waterhouse, John Engelman, Sherwood Guernsey, John McNamara, John O’Shea, and Wells Chandler.
To conclude, an appropriate haiku from Dave Stearns:
Oops, old but not wise
Time for kindness now, wisdom
Maybe the next life.
