Class Note 1968. Digital get-togethers among classmates constitute most modern mini-reunions, but let’s start with in-person happenings among classmates. Participation in a memorable sports event brought some teammates together after a long time. Noel Augustin wrote, “I was in Hanover this past weekend for a wonderful reunion of the 1965 undefeated, untied, Ivy champion and Lambert Trophy-winning football team and was joined in this 60th(!) anniversary celebration by teammates and classmates Sam Hawken,Gene Ryzewicz, and Skip Small. The reunion team was introduced on the field to the University of New Hampshire game crowd at the first ‘media timeout,’ as the game was being televised. The Big Green emerged victorious by a touchdown, following a very exciting game on a glorious New Hampshire September afternoon. The reunion was titled ‘The Last Huddle.’ ”
From grid greats to diamond dogs: Inspired by the beginning of the 2025 Major League Baseball playoffs, John Blair, Clark Wadlow,Gerry Bell, and Peter Wonson conducted online baseball discussions that were impressively detailed and impassioned. They selected, documented, and justified their predictions and preferences not only for winning teams but also for the best player in history at each position. (There are innumerable other topics that can keep us in touch with classmates, even if remotely, so send me some suggestions to, um, pitch!)
Homecoming ’25 events started with John Engelman hosting 15 for lunch at Jesse’s on Thursday, but Barbara and I had stopped in Walpole, New Hampshire, on our way up to meet Walt “Rick” Richter and Susan at Burdick’s at that time. On Friday Ed Heald led class marchers up West Wheelock (for the only time in my life that I’ve ever kept up with Steve Calvert). Tailgating, a last-second win over Yale, and the Give a Rouse awards dinner concluded a lively, satisfying few days of camaraderie and accomplishment. Honorees Steve Atwood, Richard Parker, and David Goldenberg were present to accept their awards. (The full list of honorees can be seen in The Transmission.) Other classmates who attended whom we hadn’t seen in a while included Kevin O’Donnell and Rusty Martin.
