Charles Ross Daniels Jr. ’52
Charles Ross Daniels Jr. ’52 died peacefully at home on March 3. A lifelong resident of Pawling, New York, Ross was born on November 29, 1930. He attended Pawling High School with classmate Fayne McGrath, who later became his wife. Ross finished high school at the Frederick Gunn School in Washington, Connecticut. He graduated from Dartmouth with a major in history, was a member of Kappa Kappa Kappa, completed Navy ROTC, and was commissioned as an ensign in the Navy. He served two years and was honorably discharged in 1954. He then joined the family insurance agency, the Daniels Agency, eventually purchasing the family’s interest in the business. The agency flourished for many years under his leadership and was later sold to his son, Charlie. Ross was dedicated to the town of Pawling. He served as town clerk, councilman, and justice (for 35 years) and as Republican town chairman. He was a board member and president of organizations including the Quaker Hill Country Club, Trinity-Pawling School, Guideposts magazine, National Bank of Pawling, and Pawling Rotary Club. He and Fayne founded the Pawling Teen Center to serve area youth. Ross is survived by Charlie and his wife, Lisa; son David ’79 and his wife, Susan; son George and his wife, Laurie; son Daniel ’84 and his wife, Jennifer; and daughter Tonia ’87; 13 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. Fayne predeceased him in 2023.
